Birthed in February 2023, AT MUZA ATTORNEYS, is a new non – traditional law firm whose founder has a combined experience of 15 years’ experience practicing commercial law in Botswana and Zimbabwe. The practice’s Head, Alec Tafadzwa Muza, was admitted to practice law first in Zimbabwe in the year 2007 and subsequently in Botswana in the year 2014. The boutique firm seeks to utilise technology and the lessons learnt from the past Covid 19 pandemic to deliver without compromising on our high standards, simple, non-legalistic cost-effective solutions to our clients’ legal matters.

Alec is an attorney with practical experience working in both Botswana and Zimbabwe including handling intellectual property (IP) matters before the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO). He has conducted IP audits and advised and represented clients on amongst other matters; brand protection strategies, trademark, design and patent filings and litigation, copyright, licensing, sale and purchase agreements in IP and technology. Further, over the past 15 years, he has rendered legal opinions on various commercial law matters.

In addition, Alec has extensive knowledge and experience dealing with disputes arising from FIDIC contracts, supply and distribution agreements, and stock exchange rules and procedures. He has also represented and advised stock exchange listed (both BSE and ZSE) entities and non-listed clients, as well as one of the Big Four audit firms on employment law issues, regulatory compliance issues, securitization, and credit facility document review.

Furthermore, Alec has experience assisting clients with cross border business incorporation and registration of trusts. Over the years, he has handled high stakes litigation matters before arbitrators and the Superior Courts of Botswana and Zimbabwe involving various commercial law questions.

Outside representing his clients, Alec has served as the President of the Zimbabwe Institute of Patent and Trademark Agents in 2018 and 2019. He has also been appointed and served on various committees of the International Trademark Association (INTA) with the latest being the Leadership Development Committee, where he is the Co-Project Leader of the Bootcamp Project for the 2022 and 2023 term. In May 2022, Alec chaired the 11th Session of the ARIPO Working Group on the improvement of the ARIPO protocols relating to industrial property.
